Recycling Mixed Waste Paper

Mixed Waste Paper

Mixed waste paper includes almost every kind of clean paper that isn't magazine, newspaper, or corrugated cardboard. Here are some typical categories of mixed waste paper. If you have a question, call the Garten Recyling at 581-4473.

Junk Mail

We all know what this material is and how a seemingly non-stop stream of it fills our mailboxes. Junk mail is recyclable in the Salem area at the two dropoff depots listed below. Simply save it up unsorted, and once a month take it to your preferred depot for recycling. Hopefully junk mail will be a curbside collected material soon in the Salem area. Portland and other Oregon communities offer this service.

Grayboard

Cracker boxes, cereral boxes, clothing store boxes, and shoe boxes all have one thing in common. They are constructed of a material called grayboard. This material is not collected in current curbside recycling programs. However, for those of us who have the grayboard habit, or folks who simply want to add grayboard to the materials they recycle, two local depots accept the clean, separated material.
