After it is applied, the gold leaf is teased into the statue recesses with a soft brush. The 3.25" x 3.25" sheets of 23K gold are so fine, so gossamer, that the slightest movement of air will make a sheet flutter. Roll a sheet between your fingers and thumb and it will disappear. Yet these wisps of gold are chemically inert and very durable.
