  • Alice Brown Photo

Alice Brown is photographed in the Scroll Garden in the late 1940's. Mrs. Brown was the third and last resident/owner of Deepwood, from 1924-1968. She is responsible for commissioning landscape architects Lord & Schryver to design Deepwood's gardens. Later, Alice encouraged the effort to preserve Deepwood House and grounds as a city park and living museum.

Her husband Clifford Brown was lost in a fishing accident in British Columbia only a few years after purchasing Deepwood. Alice re-married in 1945 to widower Keith Powell. The ceremony took place in the Scroll Garden.
