provided informal living space. Alice Brown, Deepwood's third owner, removed the pocket doors between the front parlor and the back parlor. This allowed room for built-in bookcases. The woodwork was matched in style and craftsmanship.
At the same time, Mrs. Brown also replaced the cast iron radiators with a fin style radiator which were enclosed. A vent can be seen below the lower bookshelf. Louvered, moveable double-hung shutters in the downstairs rooms allowed for convenient privacy and a variety of lighting situations.
