Jensen Arctic Museum

This hunters' boat or Umiak (U-ME'-ack) was fashioned from two female walrus hides that were split. It is painted white to blend with the typical arctic surroundings. Within the boat are seal skin floats used when a harpoon was thrown. A variety of harpoons are displayed. This Umiak was built for and used by Paul Jensen. It could be rowed or sailed.
